The canvas doesn’t lie. When TK steps up to paint, it’s with the weight of real life challenges, long nights, and a community that refuses to let the spark dim and the result is ELECTRIC. We dive into the moments that shaped her vision: customizing kicks to survive, drawing from imagination when references weren’t an option, and discovering that “PROTECTING YOUR ART” isn’t gatekeeping, it’s good stewardship. If you’ve ever felt the ache of the first brushstroke or the sting of sharing too soon, this conversation will meet you where you are.

We explore how creative discipline grows inside imperfect circumstances. TK breaks down how scarcity thinking fades when you keep showing up, even without the perfect studio or schedule. She shares how grief for a cousin became a catalyst for purpose, why boundaries make vulnerability safer, and how community spaces like Baltimore’s Wide Awake Festival created instant balance by setting clear intentions. There’s craft talk too: working across multiple pieces, timing small chores to clear mental clutter, priming canvases to beat “blank page” anxiety, and naming work to claim it.

Along the way, we laugh about weaponized dishes, trade favorite smells, and reveal the textures behind TK’s process. The heartbeat arrives as a love note to her younger self: you are loved, protected, and capable - GO CREATE FEARLESSLY! We close with a pledge to show up for ourselves and for each other, because art grows where care and consistency meet. If you’re a painter, musician, maker, or anyone trying to turn inner noise into signal, you’ll leave with practical ways to protect your craft, feed your spirit, and build momentum that lasts.

Opening Vibes & Guest Intro

SPEAKER_03

All right, here we go. Thank you for joining us on the Respecting Perspectives podcast. Hey yo, yo, we in here. We in here. Yo, listen, AWOL here, and I'm just so grateful for y'all to be joining us right now for a uh a very special moment. And uh today has been a gift. I've been able to connect with so many different artists, and um gosh, you know, let me tell you something. Last night, I I was blown away by your art because it was so cool seeing what you were doing at the same time, and then she painted this alien over here, okay? And there was, I wasn't wearing this necklace, okay? She drew it, my homegirl over here, my alien homegirl over here with the Saturn necklace. And then I was like, I gotta do this. I put it on, walked over to her. I was like, yo, you do not even know what you're doing right now. Like, she did not even know what she was doing right now, and it just it turned into an awesome moment. But enough of me blabbering on here. You got gosh, I mean, a painter slash muralist, slash, um, let's see here, color extraordinaire. I mean, you know, just just fluent with the strokes out here, you know what I mean? Like, serious with it too, you know. I I I am super grateful to have TK here and uh gosh, tell the tell the world how you feeling and and and uh how you got here.

SPEAKER_00

Thank you so much for having me. Like since last night, it was just been alignment after alignment after alignment after alignment, and it's been a what we said, ascension last night. Beyond ascension, yeah, like total uh elevated experience, and then it just look where we're at today. Right? It's crazy, innit? Five o'clock in the morning, and then we back at two o'clock. Doing full of energy and just ready to do it, put in the work, and this is the work being together, curating, community, creativity,

Wearing Many Hats As Creators

SPEAKER_00

all the things. Man, I love it. Been in the kitchen.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, been in the kitchen. You have. I mean, you can tell you she had her outfit on last night, and it was her her jeans, her sweatpants, and then a hoodie, and there was paint. Oh, you could just tell. Yeah, the jeans. Yeah, oh the jeans, yeah, these are different. She'd be rocking these things. Like, I love it because for you to be able to paint something and then to have that on you. I mean, that's that's that helps you remember all the things that you're doing.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I had to like, it's like had to surrender. I had to like surrender. It's like, yeah, you'll have your, you know, when you need to be clean, right? Mm-hmm. You got you got that. But I mean, every other day, living day, I'm a I'm an artist first. Artist first, gosh.

SPEAKER_03

You know, it makes you think about all the people.

SPEAKER_00

Well, human first, but yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, yeah. It's a great thought, right? Yeah, like what the lineup of things that you are and the the roles that you fill, you know. You got some fathers out there, you got mothers out there, you got artists out there, you got innovators out there, you know, and and taking those roles and then, you know, like switching it up a little bit, you know, then you get home and you got to be the you know, either the parent or the or the boyfriend or girlfriend.

SPEAKER_00

Many hats, many hats.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. I and the I'm digging here. Where'd you get this out from? Uh from be more uh as a matter of fact, can you get a close-up on it? Yeah, here. Put it in front of one of the cameras. There you go. Let's give them this one right here. All right, check this out. Let's give Groovy a second. Cashflow investing club. Oh, check it out. That cash flow investing club in that house. And be more wealthy, be more wealthy.

SPEAKER_00

Limited

Live Painting, Alignment & Momentum

SPEAKER_00

editions. Oh, you gotta get you gotta copy one. I had to copy one. Cop one. One of my favorite, favorite caps. So love it.

SPEAKER_03

Love it. You're killing it, you're killing it.

SPEAKER_00

But yeah, it's your girl TK in the building. What it do, y'all? I mean, we here with it. I I I feel like uh did a quantum leap for real. Like it's really big. At the end of the day, like I was just in, I was just in court. Oh shit. On the freaking October 30th, and now we're here. I'm in front. Uh I just did a live painting, and then what how long were we? It was like two hours. It was like two. Oh, on time. In May. And then um two hours later, I just usually take me a minute or something, or whatever, or a week, and look what I'm made to do. I can't now I have to, I done rose. We all rose the bar within ourselves. And I feel like, oh man, some big stuff is brewing, man.

SPEAKER_03

It's like Whoops. Oh my gosh. I didn't want you walking around with it. Right? Oh my god. Because the shells, I'm digging the shells. That's pretty, that's pretty good. Where'd you get that from?

SPEAKER_00

Um, I got it from her name is Ophelia. She's actually located down at the uh harbor. Okay. Well, that's where I usually run into her at times. She has beautiful jewelry. So yeah, when y'all go down to harbor, check Shorty out. Um What's her name? Do you know Ophelia? I forgot her tag at the moment, but definitely I'll get that in the description. Yeah, when I can. Okay, I got you. I get that for you. Yeah, for sure. Beautiful, beautiful work. Connected, like she puts her real, like her energy soul. Yeah, like, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Let's see here.

Tools, Spaces & Drawing From Imagination

SPEAKER_03

So what um, as far as the stuff that you're working on right now, you know, how do you know, like what what like when does a piece start? When do you actually set that easel up, you know what I mean?

SPEAKER_00

And like put the painting, like, does something have to be in front of you, or like, does it uh that's a really cool question, because for one, I had to like do a lot of painting without the easel, right? It was a lot of that, like, wherever, even standing up, like, alright, like, or it gotta be outside, or I had to learn how to do it wherever I am. And in different stages, I mean, life experience, right? That's what creates it. Getting back to drawing from my mind, I because usually I'm able to have a reference, and I get I get inspiration from references from other people's lives, you know, so you get a social media adventures, you get different, you know, or just anatomy, people's body, you know what I mean? So, um, but like, I mean, I was locked up at one point and I had to draw from my my imagination. I was like, well, I guess I unlocked that. Nice, alright, so I'm gonna move forward. And it's just weird how I guess like moving back towards it or like growing back towards it, or I guess like remembering back to my creativity and my art, what was kind of I was distracted from or redirected, I'll say. And um, it's been an interesting, really interesting journey. Um, but like how we were talking about last night, like I had to kind of like learn backwards, you know what I mean? Like, do all of the is it's easier now, of course. Like, you could go through all is raw, all of like straight from ground zero, you know what I mean? And so it's like yes, yeah, that's why it's getting easier now. So it's like, alright, it makes sense. You gotta respect the process, helps you respect the process and then your process process, and then helps give risk more respect and honor to your craft and what you're doing, and and as yourself, as the one who's actually putting in the action for that. So let's connect it.

SPEAKER_03

Love that. Let's see here. Um, how did you when we when we talk about your why, you know, um, how did you navigate to find that? I know it's a deep one.

SPEAKER_00

I'll say again life experience, like big kind of like milestones um that aren't even like typical milestones made by tell other people or whichever the case may be, but like you know, because I didn't graduate college yet or anything like that. But I mean everybody's steps and stuff are kind of lined up different. Yeah, for sure. Um

Finding The Why Through Loss

SPEAKER_00

I'll say life experience. Ask the question one more time.

SPEAKER_03

How did you find your why? Other when you you mentioned life experience, but like give us like maybe is is there a particular experience itself that like that stands out? Um like a memory when maybe when you were a child, maybe not even child, but like a younger adult or I'll say a real like real big turning point was um when my cousin Gabby had passed in 2017.

SPEAKER_00

Sorry to and I was like thank you, appreciate that. Um and I was living out in Florida at the time. I was in Florida from what 2016 to 2018, and like there was a period well when she had passed, like I was like kind of like I was homeless at that time. Okay. So like it was just so much going on at once. And I was still like customizing kicks. I was still, you know, just still the main thing was trying to, you know, plant my roots somewhere or you know, build my foundation, create my safe space so I can create, so I can, you know what I'm saying, like educate myself. And I had the I've had to, I've been put in positions to do it anyway when I don't have those things. Like, you know what I mean? Like, remember the question, like, if we had unlimited resources, well, like what if you had what are you doing if it is limited? Right, that's a great question. And it's like that's how you're able to create from you, that's how you're able to kind of create your unlimited resources by breaking the mold of scarcity or lack, or you know what I'm saying? Like you'll get in touch with abundance and you know how to create your creator, you know what I mean?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, self-abundance, right? Yeah, how to create that for yourself, and yeah, it can be a challenge, you know, finding just think. I mean, there's some people who go through their whole lives not finding that. You know, think about that. There's some people who go through their whole lives without understanding that that voice in their head. That voice in their head is is is a stranger to them, you know, their whole life. So, I mean, you know, we you know, we should be super grateful that we can not only like understand the voice, but like know how to build on it.

SPEAKER_00

And it's you, like you gotta learn how to listen to like your discernment, listen to you. Like there's a lot of stuff that is you, but then one that's like one.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, it's crazy. It's crazy. It's it's it's crazy because like these things, you know, sometimes they're hard to describe,

Abundance Mindset Over Scarcity

SPEAKER_03

but you know, like yeah, you know, we can be communicating without like talking our regular.

SPEAKER_00

I know, right?

SPEAKER_03

We've done this like three or four times. Like you would think that uh we got like this telepathic um, you know, uh thing here, you know. Uh but listen to this. Um, I I wanted to talk about protecting um your art, you know, like for me personally, I make certain connections with tracks, and I am very protective of of what I do, and um gosh, I'm not sure why. Like, like I need to put my wall, put a wall down in in in a way and really just let the world in. You know, do you do you find it hard uh to to do that? To be vulnerable?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. It can be challenging. Ex it can be challenging. Uh-huh. Me and um Jay Jay were talking outside like about like betrayals and trauma and just it can be hard, it can be hard. For sure. And that and that's usually kind of where you're learning how to like push through that because in order to share your art or your creativity or whichever, like it is a part of you. Yeah, you don't have a choice in a way, like you have to make that some type of relationship with it, and it can be in moderation, it can be whatever you want it to be. Whether you know what I'm saying, you just hey, it's whatever you can complete, whichever, and then you take what comes with that because there are people out here that mishandle it. It's a you know, be drop, fumble in it, you know what I mean? Yeah, some people be carrying it for the long time. Lack of consideration, a lot, it's a lot of things, and a lot of it stems from pain. So um, so yeah. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

It's interesting, isn't it? To even think about that, you know, and to try and dig with

Vulnerability, Boundaries & Protecting Art

SPEAKER_03

with some of those thoughts and and uh get to the bottom of you know why you feel the way you do and and do the things you do. Yeah. Uh let's see here. What are one of the um what's one of the first memories that you have of creating something? You gotta dig on this. Dig on this one.

SPEAKER_00

Like pull the shovel out. I mean, uh, okay, so childhood, uh, growing up in Laurel, um, shout out Fox Rest, you know. Yeah, my Fox Rest crew, eight. Um, just drawing cartoons, 90s, 90s cartoons. Um, one of my favorite cartoons, Tom and Jerry. You know, I did some Johnny Bravo. Uh, I mean, I don't think I did an edit edit any one. I did a bunch of just little ones here and there. But they weren't a little, they were actually good. Nice. And I wasn't looking, like it was just from my, you know, just not looking at anything, whichever. Or I watched a cartoon and I was able to do it from my mind. So that's cool. Yeah. And then not much out of that, like school kind of, you know, the responsibilities of that, and then juggling chores, juggling things with life. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Chores, did you say chores? Yeah. What was your what was the worst chore? Dishes. Oh, dishes, dude. Dishes are the worst.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Dishes in logical. You can weaponize dishes. They can't.

SPEAKER_03

Or chores, but you can weaponize dishes. So then just do the dishes. Just do them no matter what, then. So that way they can't mess with you.

SPEAKER_00

I wash my dishes after I eat meals. I mean, right? It doesn't even matter for real. I I understand it. I don't mind it now. I've grown to kind of appreciate it as long as I got some gloves sometimes or whatever. Because sometimes you get down and dirty. I just need the gloves where I can handle it. You know, put on some music, it can be therapeutic, make you think, cleaning, getting your whatever, man.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I hear that. I hear that. You know, it's funny though, like, I don't mean to judge, but uh, when I go into somebody's house and they have a sink like full of dishes, you know, and there's that like random fly that's like and you're like, yo, you like I'm not, I don't obviously I'm not gonna say anything, but I'm gonna think like it might take you like 10 minutes. You're like, or are you alright? Are you alright? Like it's it's crazy though, because like even something, you know what, when it when it comes to like chores, like small stuff like that, I think about like what I've been trying to do is like if there's something I don't want to do, when I end up

Early Creative Memories & Practice

SPEAKER_03

doing it, I time it. I time it right and yo, it it usually takes like two minutes, and then like I hit the stopwatch and I'm like, and then I go and look in the mirror, I'm like, why are you such an idiot? Like, why did you why did you wait one week for two minutes? You know what I mean? Like, I'd be shaming myself at the same time, but it helps me. That's just what that's one way I I I I feel you though.

SPEAKER_00

I feel you though. I have some forms that like are like calling my name.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, for some forms, all right. Well, get those done. And if anybody else out there has some forms or some chores that they know that they need to get done, you know, do that right now.

SPEAKER_00

Like we'll even let's you know, let's makes room for other things that you could be doing, honestly. It's mentally and physically.

SPEAKER_03

Dude, oh don't even start. I mean, because now you're talking about like it makes you think about like think about the clutter that you got up here. You know what I mean? Like think about. Oh, right, it is. Oh, that's the I think that's and that's that's so much different than like actual clutter because you can like go walk by and see it every now and then and think like, oh, I should do this. But like the clutter in your head, like, you don't even notice it's there. Yeah. You be like squeezing by it, you know, sometimes.

SPEAKER_00

And then it distracting, distracted me from.

SPEAKER_03

Oh my gosh, distractions. What's your biggest, what's your biggest distraction? Yep, I got you with a non-white border.

SPEAKER_00

Wow. I mean, I don't want to be embarrassed. No, dude, come on, just be honest. I ain't gonna fry. Pussy has been some d a distraction. You know what?

SPEAKER_03

I can relate, but I'm not gonna be.

SPEAKER_00

It has it was at a point. It was like, but you know, there was that vulnerable thing, you know what I'm saying? But uh we all kind of learn how to navigate or whichever and what time and place for everything, honestly. And I mean, even to have a little fun or whichever, you know what I'm saying? But uh uh, actually they be trying to take souls out here with souls. Oh yeah, soul snatching out here. It's it's a real thing.

SPEAKER_03

Uh if I met that girl, she would snatch my soul. I'm telling you.

SPEAKER_00

Like, she's isn't it crazy? Like, you just just be looking at it, like looking at her.

SPEAKER_03

Like eyeing her up. We gotta name her. Oh my god. I'm I do I mean, what do you think? I'm thinking like I'm thinking like Evelyn or something. Like Evelyn? Or like, no, no, she gotta have something more gangster than that. Evelyn, right? What am I thinking? Um, all right, let me think. Oh, Persephone.

SPEAKER_00

Persephone? That is cute. Yeah, I like that. That's Sephi, yo. That's Sephiroth. Alright, so I want to introduce Persephone.

SPEAKER_03

Seffie, aka Sephi. That's Seffie, right? Coming through with it. Coming through.

SPEAKER_02

Icy, you feel me?

SPEAKER_03

Uh-huh. That's gonna be on my wall. I'm gonna we're I'm gonna take it home and put it on the wall.

SPEAKER_00

I'm trying to tell you, I'm not even trying to let him take it.

SPEAKER_03

I know. Like, I bought the painting from her last night, and she's like, she's like, you you, I need to do some things with this first. She's like, I gotta, I gotta put some gloss on it. I gotta take some pictures out in the sun. I thought it was so funny. I was like, you do you, dog. I was like, when when I'm ready to receive Persephone, you just let me know, and I

Clutter, Chores & Mental Bandwidth

SPEAKER_03

I'll be there. I'm so glad it's in a safe space.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, and we got we got Mr. Marley.

SPEAKER_02

OG, we got the OG, Mr. Marley. Absolutely. Nice. Oh man, I love it. I just ah, thank you. It's crazy. Just a group hug, group hug with the group hugger.

SPEAKER_03

Nice. Oh my gosh. All right, all right, so let's see here. So I want to dig a little bit like let's talk about the event wide awake a little bit. I think we should mention that. And um, you know, we had a bunch of cats in the room today who we all are I met most of you guys at Wide Awake, which was a festival that occurred in Baltimore um a few months ago, and um it really just got so many different artists together and they're There were painters, there were screen printers, there were like their molders, like they had like um, you know, putty that like they had statues made of. Incredible.

SPEAKER_00

It was wide awake. Incredible. Sounded like a wide wave, a wide awake wave. Wide awake wave. Title. Shitle. Yeah. We get in the tsunami. There's the wait on it. Getting the tsunami.

SPEAKER_03

So what what like an event like that? You know, what do you feel like you learn or what do you take from events like that?

unknown

Oh wow.

SPEAKER_00

That's oh man. There's so many layers to that. Yeah. Because why do we go and feel the whole community, just how we just came together and it just balance was already just it was balanced when you got like I feel like it was like balance when you got there.

SPEAKER_03

You don't have to even like put too much pressure on it, you know?

SPEAKER_00

Right. And it's crazy because a lot of us I feel as though we were in different kind of like times at that time. Like it was chaos on the outside. We were creating creating peace and sp in a s in a space, even when we weren't even in the war memorial yet. Yeah. Like Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

It was You knew what you were walking into. Like, not or the safeness of walking into it.

SPEAKER_00

It felt it felt safe, you know. Phil, shout out to Shout out to Phil. Baby. Shout out to Phil. Um and the whole crew and wide away crew. Uh just like that's big brother for real. Like I keep saying it, like, just really did something big to bring us all together and to create, like you said, something that's bigger than us. And we are just all the pieces, you know, a part of the orchestra, man, making the symphony. Go make some good music.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, they got an album coming out that's all the artists from the the um from the festival. And uh I'm I'm super excited to see uh you know and hear what comes. I'm I'm trying to get I'm trying to get myself under the door with that. I was

Breaking The Page & Creative Flow

SPEAKER_03

working on the album, so I was working on a lot of things at the same time. But hopefully there's still an opportunity. Either way, though, they're they're killing it, and I'm super proud of those guys for for you know doing what they're doing and super proud of all the other crews that are out there just just you know promoting and you know in the right way too. You know, they they're doing it for love, they're doing it for love. Like you could tell, like they didn't do it, yeah, like their intention. You know, it's all about it's all about your intentions. Yeah, you know, and like it is, it is intentions are just are crazy, you know. And let's see here, you know what? It flip it though, intentions. Then we have like expectations. You know, do you ever put a certain expectation on your art?

SPEAKER_00

I did, and I've I did in the beginning, and I feel as though that's why it was really challenging. Um I'll say after after customizing kicks, because that was you know, 2014 to 2016, I was customizing kicks. So you were just like shoes, any kind of shoe? Yeah, I was doing restorations and you know, waterproofing and stuff like that. So I was kind of learning with a different type of canvas and material, okaying, and so kind of it was like a step towards hey, yeah, you're supposed to be creating, but it was like, alright, well, I had to find out like what's my what's my canvas, what's my surfaces, and then I'm learning like I could I could kind of do almost anything if I want or whichever. So, but getting on canvas 2019, it was like uh yeah, you weren't sure how to I don't know, like I gotta show the before like in the beginning of the 2000. I gotta show you guys like pieces or whichever, and then to where we're at now. It's like well, and basically it's proof of practice, it's sharpening. I mean, you just keep just keep going a little bit. Just I just keep picking it up, just keep picking it up, just keep picking up, whatever it is, whatever it is, just keep picking it up.

SPEAKER_03

Oh you know what's crazy? Oh, it just made me think about like I'm I've painted in my life and not anything crazy,

Community Energy At Wide Awake Festival

SPEAKER_03

but I always have a challenge with like that first stroke, like breaking the page, that's what they call that. Is that what that is?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, do you struggle with that mess it up? Do you struggle with that? Uh I I I did. Uh I could resonate with that. Yeah, I did. Um, because it's sometimes well for me personally, I have so many ideas. And it's like, I want to do so many things right now. Like right now, like all these that's why I'm I would be working between like five pieces at once, or whichever, just interchanging or you know I mean, the song changes or something like that. And I'm I'm like, I'm about to work on this one now, which is like I don't know, just going with the five, but I want to get it all out. And it's like alright, well, give me a wall. Yeah, give me a wall, right? Give me a wall, just let me be free. Let me if I'm can I'll be able to get it out if I constantly just this is what I'm supposed to be doing all day for sure. Why not? All day, all day we can get it out, get able to get the space but sometimes the outside world doesn't grant you the space or grace to get what you need out to communicate, to use your voice, so you know, it's a it's a lot of things. I know it can be a lot of things, it's complex, right? It did. I don't even feel like oh you you know I know we'd be interweaving.

SPEAKER_03

We got this. We got this. We got this. Wait, do you hear that sound? What is that? Oh my gosh, do you hear it? It's like a uh it's it's a phone ring. Is it a is it a phone ringing or something? Oh, it is. Do you hear that? Who is who is this? Who is it was called blocked? You blocked your number. Oh it's TK. Oh, it's O G T K. The younger, the little TK in the house. Oh, okay. Well, guess what? I got somebody here who has a few words for you, okay? And you better listen. Alright, because she's got some gems. Alright, pull your gem bag out right now.

SPEAKER_00

Hello? Hey, how's it going? How you been? I know you don't get asked that often. Okay. Okay. I know it can be tough. I know. Like, seriously. But you are not alone. Trust me. I'ma say you got a lot of people standing behind you. It's more than you think. But it may look like you don't you're not getting the support that you need. But understand that you're gonna get everything that you

Intentions, Expectations & Growth

SPEAKER_00

need to be provided for, and it will be worth it. You're doing great, and I wanna remind you that you are loved. Okay, and you're protected. So go in fearless and fiercely and don't let anybody stop you from creating. I love you. Good job. We'll talk soon. Alright, I'm gonna hand the phone back, alright? Oh, and make sure you uh send in the information so we can go ahead and uh exchange, alright? I got you. Alright, boom.

SPEAKER_03

Kill it, killed it. Uh I'm sure she's gonna take that information and and live live with it.

SPEAKER_00
